Not only has the UK failed to learn the lessons of Calais, or to set up a functioning family reunion system for those who have a legal right to come to the UK, but in some cases, the government has used the court system to try to keep out children with legal rights to transfer.

These boys have waited for months in reception centres in France with no explanation regarding the manner in which the family reunion decisions in their cases had been reached or how to initiate the procedure to review the decision.

MPs will vote on whether the government should re-consult with local authorities on their ability to accommodate vulnerable refugee children from Europe, effectively keeping the ‘Dub’s scheme’ open.

The country we know and love is bigger than this. Communities and councils across the country stand ready to do more. The government must agree to extend the programme and re-consult with councils immediately.
