Response on Gov’s immigration white paper
Today, the Government published it’s immigration white paper, outlining it’s plan to reduce immigration including plans to reform family reunion.
Here’s our response:
Gunes Kalkan, head of campaigns at Safe Passage International, said: “This is a disappointing plan from the Government that continues to focus on border security over people’s lives. Rather than bowing to populist politics and repeating harmful rhetoric, we need commitments to protecting people fleeing war and persecution through safe routes.
“Most of the families we work with to reunite rely on the right to family life, which is now under threat. We’re wary of the proposed reforms to family reunion, that could leave the unaccompanied children that we support alone and stuck apart from their loved ones.
“We need a different approach from this Government. One that welcomes refugees through safe routes, provides protection and celebrates migration.”
